The European Cockpit Association (ECA), together with the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers’ Associations (IFATCA), has been extremely active since the European Commission has proposed a new comprehensive Regulation on Accident Investigation to revise Directive 94/56/EC in order to voice the pilots’ and controllers’ community views and concerns. As the legislative process has now entered into a crucial phase, the two organisations have decided to promote a limited number of amendments which are the main changes needed to guarantee the independence of the safety investigation from judicial proceedings and the protection of sensitive safety data.
